Title

N.A.N.'s News Vol 1, No 2.

Description

Issue of the NAN newsletter. Contains a letter to NAN asking why the lesbian dances were advertised on the radio, citing fear of being outed to family or coworkers. The response notes that no member of NAN purposefully put it on the radio, and that future dances will only be advertised by signs on campus and downtown.

Includes announcement of new NGALE Gay and Lesbian Info line. Contains an advertisement for Gay Pride Week and a congratulatory message on the screening of Gerry Roger's film The Vienna Tribunal at the United Nations World Conference.

Includes a recruitment advertisement for volunteers to support NAN meetings, dances, Pride Week, and the newsletter itself.

N.A.N.'s News was a newsletter published by Newfoundland Amazon Network, a collection of lesbian women, including Susan Rose, Gerry Rogers, Tree Walsh, starting in the mid-1990s. N.A.N. had regular meetings to support lesbians in the province and advance queer human rights. They operated the province's first gay and lesbian phone line, 722-DYKE, from the basement of Susan Rose’s home. They hosted a Lesbian and Bisexual Women's Caucus at the Newfoundland and Labrador Provincial Women's Conference in 1996.
