Letter from St. John's

Description

Article announcing the new Gay and Lesbian Association (GALA) at Memorial University of Newfoundland which was available to faculty, staff, and students, as well as the public. It notes that GALA hosted a Halloween dance and it is rumoured that they will have a Christmas social as well. It notes that the party was hosted at Earhart's, a new gay bar in town (which was mainly catered to lesbians), and discusses Pracilla's, another gay bar (which mainly catered to gay men).

This article was posted in the Body Politic newsletter. The Body Politic was a queer, activist-based Canadian monthly newsletter that was published from 1971 to 1987. It is one of the most significant queer publications in Canadian history, and played a significant role in amplifying the Gay Liberation Movement and provided a crucial space for queer voices to be heard.
