Gay Association in Newfoundland monthly newsletter. The newsletter opens with a note from the president of G.A.I.N. who mentions a private members bill introduced in the House of Commons to add sexual orientation to the list of prohibited categories of discrimination in the Federal Human Rights Act. Unfortunately, it did not pass into law. The Vice President mentions starting up a library for G.A.I.N. for gays and lesbians that contains informative articles and books, pamphlets, novels, newsletters, etc. The G.A.I.N. Social Committee discusses the different social events that the organization holds such as softball and bowling events, and a dance. They also mention the upcoming Pride Week in June. The Executive of G.A.I.N. discusses a letter from the Canadian Red Cross expressing concerns about the spread of AIDS in blood donors, and calls for homosexual men to refrain from donating blood. Page 5 contains a letter from the Hassle Free Clinic in Toronto that describes what AIDS is, outlining the definition, causes, risks, and symptoms. This continues onto the next page where it mentions that at the time there were more than 20 cases of AIDS reported in Canada. The following page mentions an upcoming Gayline Conference (Lesbian and Gay Phoneline Conference), the first of its kind in Atlantic Canada. Page 8 features a gender/sexuality-based questionnaire, and a biblical proverb titled ‘Love’ at the bottom. The last page ends with a short letter from the Editor, an answer key to the aforementioned questionnaire, and another art graphic on the bottom.
