Gay and lesbian support group formed
Description
An article in The Muse, Memorial University of Newfoundland’s student newspaper, reporting on the inaugural meeting of a new group formed for lesbians and gay men in St. John’s. The first meeting was organized by Padraic Brake, and attendees discussed the goals and nature of the group’s activities, including providing a support network for the queer community and focusing political action. Brake wanted to use the group to work on amending the provincial Human Rights Code and illegalize discrimination based on sexuality. The next meeting would be held at the Women’s Centre in St. John’s.
